GREAT DAY FOR THE HOLY LEAGUE!

GREAT DAY FOR THE HOLY LEAGUE!

Today is great day for the Holy League as it marks the feast day of Pope St. Pius V. “During his papacy (1566-1572), Pius V was faced with the almost overwhelming responsibility of getting a shattered and scattered Church back on its feet. The family of God had been shaken by corruption, by the Reformation, by the constant threat of Turkish invasion … Only at the last minute was he able to organize a fleet which won a decisive victory in the Gulf of Lepanto, off Greece, on October 7, 1571” (AmericanCatholic.org).

This year marks the 444th anniversary of that great battle, and a moment in time that turned our Church and world around and back to our Lord. In so many ways, today, we are facing a similar call to get a “shattered and scattered Church back on its feet.” This begins by organizing a league of men who are ready to do battle against the many forces contrary to the will of God. But first, we must be battle ready; we must “put on the full armor of God” (Eph. 6:11), which means we need holy men in a “state of grace.”
